Star Wars -Black Angel.

For all of you die hard Star Wars fans who think that you have seen all movies in the Star Wars universe, more then likely you have not.

A long time ago in a galaxy not so far away, in fact this galaxy.

The 1980 short film was created to accompany The Empire Strikes Back in theaters. It was the directorial debut of Star Wars‘ pioneering set decorator Roger Christian and a special request by the big man himself, George Lucas. After it screened in cinemas, it suddenly vanished.

A popular Lucas-approved short that was in some markets aired in theaters as a companion piece to Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back in 1980.

The plot

“Sir Maddox, a knight returning from the Crusades, finds his village and keep destroyed by unknown attackers. Most of the inhabitants are dead, including his family, and the few that did survive have become infected with a disease, possibly the plague. Having left nothing to live for, Sir Maddox decides to track the attackers down and avenge his family and village. In the nearby forest, he stops by a lake, but accidentally falls into it and almost drowns due to the weight of his armor. However, a mysterious beautiful maiden in white appears to him and he is somehow saved. Thankful beyond words, he asks who she is and learns that she’s a prisoner of Black Angel, a mysterious eerie knight in black armor. Sir Maddox immediately vows to free her, but she, saddened, implores him to stay away from the evil knight. His word being his bond, Sir Maddox tracks the ominous Black Angel down anyway with the suspicious help of a strange shady snickering peasant and learns firsthand why the creature is so feared.”

The film was shot at Eilean Donan in Scotland[2] in autumn 1979. The budget of £25,000 was given to Roger Christian by an Eady Scheme fund from the British government.

George Lucas tied the film as a programme with The Empire Strikes Back in the United Kingdom, Australia and Scandinavia. It was never released on any home media, such as VHS and DVD, and for many years the original negatives were believed to be lost.

In December 2011, the 35 mm negative was rediscovered by an archivist at Universal Studios in Los Angeles, California.[1][5][6] On 13 October 2013, it was screened for the first time since its original release, and became available on Netflix and the iTunes Store for streaming and download, respectively, in early 2014.. On 12 May 2015, the film was uploaded to YouTube with an introduction by Christian.

Aside from being physically tied to Empire Strikes Back, Christian used rolls of film left over from Empire to shoot Black Angel,the short film has other similarities to Star Wars, the director says.

Star Wars is supposedly set somewhere in Arthurian times and the crusades. Dark Angel ties in with that.

Star Wars VIII(and a half)- The forgotten one.

With the force being bestowed upon us very soon again with the last Jedi it is a good time to look back at some of the forgotten or  lesser known Star Wars facts.

Darth Vader’s chest piece has Ancient Hebrew etched onto it. It reads: “His deeds will not be forgiven, until he merits”

The blizzard in the Hoth scenes was real. They were shot at Hardangerjøkulen glacier near Finse, Norway, and no special effects were used.

Qui-Gon Jinn’s communicator is actually a modified Gillette Ladies Sensor Excell razor.

The majority of Stormtroopers are left-handed due to the construction of their prop guns. They are modeled on the Sterling L2A3 9mm SMG (sub-machine gun), a military weapon from the 1950s with the magazine located on the left hand side.

E.T.’s species (Asogians) appears in The Phantom Menace at a political speech in the galactic senate.

Bounty Hunter Bossk from The Empire Strikes Back wears a costume from a 1966 Doctor Who episode.

Many of the buildings constructed to be used in shots of Tatooine are still standing in Tunisia. In fact, some of them are still used by locals.

Star Wars-The time John Lithgow was Yoda.

I reckon at least 70% of all Star Wars fans will hang their heads in shame after reading this blog for not knowing this.I did after I heard about this.

I know that all of you are scratching your heads now and are about to take out the Star Wars box set, for you don’t recall the above described scene.But let me spare you the effort and keep you safe from accidentally watching Jar Jar Binks again. The scene is actually not from any of the movies or the many spin off TV shows.

An expanded radio dramatization of the original Star Wars trilogy was produced in 1981, 1983, and 1996. The first two radio series, based on Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back, were produced and broadcast by National Public Radio (NPR) as part of NPR Playhouse. A dramatization of Return of the Jedi was produced by most of the same team and also broadcast on NPR.

Star Wars was a thirteen-part (6½ hour) expanded radio adaptation of the original Star Wars film, produced in 1981 and broadcast by National Public Radio as part of NPR Playhouse. It was adapted by Brian Daley and directed by John Madden and published by HighBridge Audio. It is the first in a series of radio dramatizations of the original Star Wars trilogy; Following its success, two more radio dramatizations were produced, of The Empire Strikes Back (1983) and Return of the Jedi (1996).

The series was made with the full cooperation of George Lucas, who donated the rights and allowed the use of sound effects and music from the films.

As with other Legends material, only material matching what was featured in the original film is considered canon, but many elements of the story first featured in the radio broadcasts were later referenced in other Legends stories. Many of the actors involved in the movie were unavailable to reprise their roles (Harrison Ford, for instance, was committed to Raiders of the Lost Ark), but Mark Hamill and Anthony Daniels returned to reprise Luke Skywalker and C-3PO, respectively.

Some other notable cast members were Ed Begley, Jr. as Boba Fett ,Edward Asner as Jabba The Hutt and Perry King as Han Solo.

Princess Leia is one of the most iconic cinema characters that has ever been. Be it in a gold bikini or with donuts in her hair, everyone knows who she is. Everyone aged 1 to 100. Alas the Princess passed away on 27 December 2016.

The Star Wars Holiday Special is a 1978 American musical science fiction television film set in the Star Wars Galaxy It stars the series’ first film’s main cast while introducing the character Boba Fett, who would appear in later films. It is one of the first official Star Wars spin-offs and was directed by Steve Binder.

In the storyline that ties the special together, Chewbacca and Han Solo visit Kashyyyk, Chewbacca’s home world, to celebrate Life Day. They are pursued by agents of the Galactic Empire, who are searching for members of the Rebel Alliance on the planet. The special introduces three members of Chewbacca’s family: his father Itchy, his wife Malla, and his son Lumpy, though these names were later explained to have been nicknames, their full names being Attichitcuk, Mallatobuck, and Lumpawarrump, respectively.

Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure

The film is set in a timeframe approximate to the Ewoks animated series occurring sometime after the events of Episode IV: A New Hope but before the events of Episode VI: Return of the Jedi.As the film opens, the Towani family’s starcruiser has crashed on the forest moon of Endor, and the Towani parents, Jeremitt and Catarine cannot locate their children, Mace and Cindel.

With a return of some of the original cast of the 1st trilogy and new characters. After a disappointing 2nd trilogy(mainly because the woeful “Phantom Menace”) this one re-ignited the spark for Star Wars fans across the globe.

The remaining 2 are set to be released in 2017 and 2019.The death of Carrie Fisher will surely mean that especially the story line for the last one needs to be altered. Most of the 2nd one ,Episode VIII, has already been shot.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Having taken her first steps into a larger world in Star Wars: The Force Awakens , Rey continues her epic journey with Finn, Poe, and Luke Skywalker in the next chapter of the saga.

Aside from the ‘original’ Star Wars saga there also will be 3 stand alone movies.The first one released earlier this month and is probably one of the best Star Wars movies.

The story follows Jyn Erso, the daughter of the unwilling designer of the Galactic Empire’s superweapon, the Death Star, and her quest to retrieve his plans for destroying it.
